Winter X Games Brings Memories of Joy & Heartache for K&N Supported Colten Moore

Colten Moore prepars for snowmobile freestyle at Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado

K&N Filters supported freestyle extraordinaire Colten Moore is preparing for the snowmobile freestyle event in the upcoming Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado

K&N Filters supported freestyle extraordinaire Colten Moore is preparing for the snowmobile freestyle event in the upcoming Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado taking place January 28-31, 2016. As a native Texan the fact that there's no snow to be found in Texas doesn't slow Colten down. "On the snowmobile, we just put wheels on the skis and put a radiator on it. We put carpet down so that I can ride on it and I just basically jump the sled into the foam pit over and over and over. I try to learn new tricks and bigger tricks and get it all dialed in," said Colten Moore.

Colten Moore will pursue seventh X Games medal at Winter X Games 2016

Although Colten Moore is excited about trying to win his seventh X Games medal, it also brings back tremendous feelings of loss for his brother Caleb Moore

Colten Moore's parents installed a foam pit years back at their place in Texas. This allowed Colten and his brother Caleb to practice jumps and freestyle safely as they pursued their adrenaline-filled passion. In a couple of days, Colten will head north to Colorado, where he'll spend a little over a week riding on snow and perfecting his landings before the X Games begin. Although Colten is excited about trying to win his seventh X Games medal, it also brings back tremendous feelings of loss.

On January 24, 2013, Colten's brother Caleb Moore under-rotated his snowmobile while flipping during the freestyle competition at the X Games. Caleb was thrown off the machine, which then hit him directly in the chest, causing bleeding around his heart. At the hospital in Aspen, there was no cardiothoracic surgeon on hand, so the decision was made to transfer him to a hospital in Grand Junction. Due to bad weather, bad luck, and other factors, nearly six hours passed before Caleb was airlifted to Grand Junction, Colorado.

Just after touching down at the airport in Grand Junction, Caleb Moore's heart stopped beating. Caleb was in respiratory arrest for about 20 minutes, which caused irreversible brain damage. One week after the accident, the Moore family made the agonizing decision to take Caleb off of life support and donate his organs, per his wishes. "Growing up, he (Caleb) led me and taught me everything I know," said Colten. "I've had to go through a lot and basically grow up some, and start leading myself and teaching myself new things. He was always the responsible one, so now I'm learning how to do that."

Brothers Colten Moore and Caleb Moore in 2012

On January 24, 2013, Colten's brother Caleb Moore under-rotated his snowmobile while flipping during the freestyle competition at the X Games

Colten admits he feels a strong connection with his brother Caleb whenever he rides, and it's one of the reasons that he continues to do what he does. "Every time I go out and ride, I pray to my brother, I pray to God, and I talk to them," said Colten. "After his accident, I wrecked too, so I wasn't able to ride for a while, and I was kind of bummed out. But honestly, the first time I hopped back on a quad and got to ride, it was the happiest I'd felt in a while, and it felt like he was right there with me, riding with me. I just feel close, like I have the best guardian angel there could possibly be now, right there, watching out for me and helping me."

Brothers Colten Moore and Caleb Moore use K&N filters

The Moore brothers have relied on K&N filters in everything from X Games competition, to touring with the Nitro Circus, racing Pro Lite trucks, or even Polaris RZR side by sides

Perhaps more exciting for Colten than the upcoming 2016 Winter X Games is the release of his book called "Catching the Sky" which is scheduled to be released on January 19, 2016. The book, which was co-authored by award-winning journalist Keith O'Brien, reveals what it was like for Colten to grow up with his brother Caleb and get fully immersed in a high-octane lifestyle. It also brings to light the gripping details of Caleb's death after he crashed during the 2013 X Games.

"It was a big opportunity for me to go get the story out even more and tell more detail," said Colten. He continued, "[The book] kind of answers the questions a lot of people have had. It's better to tell what actually happened, because if you don't, then you have people out their making their own opinions or guessing their own story of what happened. This way, the truth can be told and stuff doesn't get out of whack with people and their opinions and gossip and whatever."

K&N Filters has supported Colten Moore, and his late brother Caleb, for several years pre-dating Caleb's passing. The Moore brothers have relied on K&N air filters and K&N oil filters in everything from X Games competition, to touring with the Nitro Circus, racing Pro Lite trucks, or even Polaris RZR side by sides. Jake Andreotti Starts His 2016 Season at the Tulsa Shootout Micro Sprint Races

Jake Andreotti Racing Micro Sprint Cars Use K&N filters

Jake Andreotti, Andreotti Racing and the trio of # 7p Micro Sprint Cars rely on the support of K&N and the protection offered by K&N Air Filters as well as K&N Oil Filters

The Tulsa Shootout in Tulsa, Oklahoma is a five-day event and the largest event for micro sprint racing in the country. 2016 is the 32nd year of this prestigious event and the number of entries grows every year. 2016 saw a record 1,249 total entries, among 615 drivers. The 2016 Tulsa Shootout was an event every Micro Sprint race fan and driver should experience.

Jake Andreotti started his 2016 race season at the Tulsa Shootout

Jake Andreotti has started his 2016 race season at the Tulsa Shootout coming off a three month hiatus due to injuries to his neck and a concussion

The Tulsa Shootout encompasses 9 different racing classes including Winged and Non-Wing 600cc Outlaw Micros, A-Class 600cc Micros, ASCS ECOtech Midgets, Restricted Micros, 1200cc Winged Mini Sprints, 1200cc Non Wing Mini Sprints and the exciting Jr. Sprint class for kids 6-12. Drivers from all over the country attend the Tulsa Shootout will skill levels ranging from amateur to professional, ages 6 to 60.

Each driver dreams of bringing home the Golden Driller award, which is a trophy that takes its likeness from a 76 foot tall statue of an oil worker leaning on an oil derrick. The Golden Driller was removed from a depleted oil field in Seminole, Oklahoma and now stands as Tulsa, Oklahoma's most recognizable monument.

Jake Andreotti and his # 7p K&N Filter micro sprint car

Jake Andreotti and his # 7p K&N Filter micro sprint car made quite an impression at the Tulsa Shootout with fans seeking his autograph after each of his main events

K&N Air Filters sponsored micro sprint driver Jake Andreotti is based in the Northern California area. Jake began racing at just five years old with training beginning six months earlier. During a period of over six years racing Quarter Midget cars, Andreotti built up quite a race resume. He was able to accumulate five national titles, 20 club titles, regional titles and other series championships. Andreotti has broken track records across the United States and can even boast that he has raced internationally in Canada.

At the end of the 2013 Quarter Midget season Jake, and his father Jared, decided it was time to take Andreotti Racing to the next level. This past September 12-year old Jake Andreotti drove the K&N Filters equipped number 7p Super 600 Micro sprint to one of the most prestigious titles in California. Jake became the first repeat King of California title holder in two different classes, and both in his rookie year for each class.

Jake Andreotti was awarded the Donnie Ray Crawford Hard Charger Award

The highlight of the Tulsa Shootout for Jake Andreotti was being awarded the Donnie Ray Crawford Hard Charger Award and recognition for his undying efforts

Jake Andreotti has started his 2016 race season coming off a three month hiatus due to injuries to his neck and a concussion. Jake is now racing three cars in three different classes; Restricted Micros, A Class 600 cc Micros, and Winged Outlaw Micros. With the three car line up being new for 2016, and a three month break from driving, Jake and the Andreotti team weren't sure what to expect going into the Tulsa Shootout.

At a Micro Sprint event a good pill draw, where each driver draws a number and that determines where they start in their heat race, will help tremendously. Unfortunately Jake Andreotti's luck wasn't quite there as he drew the highest pill draw in the Outlaw class and towards the back of the other classes as well. Not to be discouraged, Jake saw this as a challenge he was ready to conquer.

In the end, Jake placed 5th in the Restricted A Main and 6th in the Winged Outlaw after coming from 20th. His highlight of the event was being awarded the Donnie Ray Crawford Hard Charger Award. It was quite an honor to receive this award and be recognized for his undying efforts. Jake and his 7p K&N Filter micro sprint made quite an impression. After the main events, Jake signed autographs and many fans felt he was one of the best drivers on the track.

A dirty or clogged cabin air filter can be the source of musty odors inside a vehicle while also impeding airflow into the passenger compartment causing heating or air conditioning problems. 2008-2014 Audi models cabin air filter

It takes many different components working together to maintain the luxury found inside an Audi, and K&N can help with a direct replacement cabin air filter for many 2008 through 2014 models

K&N cabin air filters are designed with a synthetic, electrostatically charged media to help clean and freshen incoming air. K&N cabin air filters are housed in a sturdy molded urethane frame for a precise fit in the factory cabin air filter box.

Can-Am Maverick Turbo & Polaris RZR 900 Side-by-Sides K&N Air Filters

Murray Racing Can-Am Maverick Baja 500

Murray Racing took 2nd Place in the 47th Annual Bud Light SCORE BAJA 500 with a K&N equipped Can-Am Maverick

Polaris RZR With K&N Air Filter

K&N knows that side by side ATVs, like the Polaris RZR, will be operated in some of the most extreme conditions on earth

Before the Polaris Ranger RZR was introduced in 2008 the side by side ATV market was dominated by the Yamaha Rhino. However, side by sides like the Yamaha Rhino were primarily intended as utility all-terrain vehicles popular with farmers, hunters & outdoorsmen. The introduction of the Polaris Ranger RZR in 2008 spawned an all new market segment and the evolution of the sport side by side ATV has progressed in rapid bursts ever since.

The Side by Side ATV market is one of the hottest & fastest evolving Powersports segments. Nearly every major ATV manufacturer is fighting for a piece of the pie, and they continually try to one-up each other. This has resulted in constantly updated and newly released side by side ATV models. Luckily, K&N Filters is keeping up all this change with air filters for a couple of the hottest sport side by sides on the market; the Can-Am Maverick Turbo & Polaris RZR 900.

ISO coarse test dust resembles silt beds of baja

K&N performs filtration efficiency testing following the internationally recognized ISO 5011 protocol using ISO coarse test dust reminiscent of the silt beds found in the Mexican Baja peninsula

K&N replacement high-flow air filters, number CM-9715 for Can-Am Maverick models and PL-8715 for Polaris RZR 900 models are designed to fit inside the stock air filter box of the side by side models listed below without any need for modifications. K&N replacement air filters are made with specially woven cotton gauze. Because cotton, by nature, is more breathable than paper, K&N replacement air filters can flow more air than a typical paper air filter. More air can result in increased performance and improved throttle response

With a K&N replacement side by side air filter an increase in airflow does not come at the expense of filtration efficiency and engine protection. K&N engineers placed filtration efficiency and dirt retention at the top of the priority list when developing a replacement air filter for Can-Am Maverick Turbo & Polaris RZR 900 models. Both filters use design elements above and beyond standard on-road replacement air filters. K&N used two extra layers, totaling six, of special tight weave cotton gauze sandwiched between wire mesh. Six layers of tight weave pleated cotton filter media allows these filters to outflow the stock air filter, hold more dirt for long service intervals, and offer excellent filtration efficiency.

K&N performs filtration efficiency testing following the ISO 5011 protocol with ISO coarse test dust to guarantee that our air filters will provide high airflow without sacrificing engine protection. Calling this test dust coarse is almost preposterous, as 22% of the dust is rated at 10 microns or less. To provide perspective, a human blood cell is typically between 6 and 8 microns across. In the real world, dust like this can be found in the notorious silt beds of the Mexican Baja peninsula.

2015 & 2016 CAN-AM MAVERICK 1000R TURBO X DS K&N replacement air filter

K&N replacement air filter CM-9715 is designed to fit 2015 & 2016 CAN-AM MAVERICK 1000R TURBO X DS and CAN-AM MAVERICK MAX 1000R TURBO X DS models

Besides increased performance, K&N replacement high-flow air filters have the ability to be washed & reused time and again. Many newer model side by side ATVs are equipped with disposable air filters from the factory. With the kind of dusty conditions that side by sides are operated in, the ability to wash and reuse a K&N air filter means that it will pay for itself over time. K&N high-flow oiled cotton gauze air filters can be washed and made like new using one of the K&N Recharger air filter service kits. Larger size Power Kleen K&N air filter cleaner and K&N air filter oil are available for side by side owners who need to service their air filters more often.

K&N replacement air filter CM-9715 is designed to provide increased performance, reusability, and long air filter service intervals without any need for modifications or tuning for the following Can-Am Maverick models:

Big Rig, Semi-Truck & Diesel Bus K&N Air Filter Delivers Lower Maintenance Costs

38-2003R K&N air filter for diesel big rig semi truck bus

The 38-2003R K&N air filter itself is approximately 24 inches high, with a top outside diameter of 10 inches, a bottom outside diameter of 13-1/2 inches, and a 7 inch flange

For decades K&N has been building air filters designed for performance, durability and longevity. K&N air filters have become world renowned for their superior quality and exceptional airflow for increased power. K&N offers a replacement air filter for most cars, trucks, motorcycles, and ATVs, however it wasn’t until recently that K&N began to offer Heavy Duty (HD) Replacement Air Filters for Big Rig, Semi Truck & Bus applications. K&N commercial grade diesel air filters are built tough to withstand commercial use and are backed by a three year/300,000-mile limited warranty.

38-2003R K&N air filter for diesel big rig semi truck bus

K&N heavy duty diesel replacement air filter 38-2003R is a reverse flow air filter housed inside a reusable metal canister

K&N HD diesel air filters are built using a “hybrid” synthetic air filter filtration material. This material utilizes filtration techniques employed by both K&N cotton and non-woven synthetic air filters in order to provide exceptional filtration, superior airflow, and superior performance. Unlike conventional K&N reusable filters, a HD reusable air filter does not need air filter oil. This makes them fast and easy to clean. Fast cleaning, and long service intervals coupled with their reusable design makes them a viable way for Big Rig, Semi-Truck & Bus owners or fleets to lower maintenance costs.

The easiest way to find the proper K&N Replacement Heavy Duty Diesel Air Filter for a heavy duty diesel application is by air filter cross reference using the current disposable air filter. While this is a pretty accurate way to find a K&N HD air filter, keep in mind that an air filter cross reference should be for comparison of filters with similar dimensions. This is important because some filters are available in either standard or reverse airflow directions. K&N heavy-duty diesel air filter, number 38-2003R, is a prime example.
