2015 Subaru WRX 2.0-Liter FA20 Series H4 Performance Boost From K&N Air Intake

K&N Air Intake System for Subaru WRX

K&N over-sized reusable air filter RU-4960 is fitted to the inlet of a mandrel-bent aluminum short ram air intake tube finished in a flat black powder coat finish

The VA series 2015 Subaru WRX is quite a departure from the previous generation Subaru WRX. The Impreza name has been dropped completely in all markets and the WRX body has taken on a more distinguished look from the standard Subaru Impreza. Most significantly changed from the outgoing 2014 WRX is the all-new 2.0L FA20DIT direct injection boxer engine and twin-scroll turbocharger. The VA series 2015 Subaru WRX is the first WRX to move away from the EJ-series engine. Drivability of the WRX has been improved thanks to the twin-scroll turbo which helps peak torque numbers come on twice as soon and makes slightly more horsepower than the 2.5L EJ engine. Also new for the 2015 WRX is a standard 6-speed manual transmission previously only available to those who stepped up to the WRX STi. This combination of the new 2.0L FA series engine, and the six-speed manual transmission, provides the 2015 Subaru WRX owner with a much different driving experience than the car it replaces.

MotoAmerica Championship Leader Jake Gagne Raced Pro MX Fulfilling Childhood Dream

Jake Gagne in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross

Jake Gagne, current leader in MotoAmerica Superstock 1000cc championship points, decided to trade his Yamaha R1 sportbike for a YZ450F dirt bike & race Lucas Oil Pro Motocross

It’s not often that a championship leading motorcycle racer would exchange their usual mount for an unfamiliar bike and compete professionally in an entirely different discipline. However, Jake Gagne, current leader in MotoAmerica Superstock 1000cc championship points, decided to trade his Yamaha R1 sportbike for a YZ450F dirt bike and step into the highest level of motocross. With one round and two races remaining in the 2015 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship series, Jake Gagne took a chance as he decided to fulfill a lifelong dream of racing in an Outdooor National Motocross race at the pro level.

Jake Gagne at Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship

After the first two morning 2015 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship series sessions, Jake Gagne secured his place in the main event by qualifying 23rd out of 40 open positions

When the idea was first hatched, there wasn't any hesitation with the team or Gagne’s sponsors. The RoadRace Factory Red Bull team fully supported the idea and so did Yamaha USA who provided Gagne with a factory spec YZ450F. Jake Gagne’s other sponsors, such as Bell Powersports, Red Bull, Alpinestars, and K&N air filters jumped at the opportunity to be a part of this unique experience. Competing in two very different types of racing is a throwback to the days of the Grand National Champs, when a rider had to excel at three different disciplines. In this day and age of specialists, it’s rare to get a glimpse of an athlete's prowess in other sports. The buzz surrounding this decision and overall effort was electric. But just as there were many supporters, Gagne’s decision caught the attention of numerous detractors.

Jake Gagne

As current MotoAmerica Superstock 1000cc championship leader Jake Gagne lined up at the gate for Moto One, he looked as if he had been racing professional motocross since the beginning

Jake Gagne would be jumping head first into a stacked field of the best MX riders in the world and the whispers weren't so silent about Jake's chances of qualifying for a Pro Motocross Main. Jake was set to run in the A Group for his practice / qualifying sessions. This meant Gagne would be banging bars with the likes of current Supercross champion Ryan Dungy, current motocross champion Ken Roczen, as well as regulars like Blake Baggett and Justin Barcia. Jake was confident that he could make the main event, as all he had to do was ride smart, relaxed and as fast as possible.

Jake Gagne in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross

The 30 minute plus 2 laps Lucas Oil Pro Motocross moto wore on and Jake Gagne settled in to a decent battle while adapting to the ever changing course conditions at the Miller MX track

After the first two morning sessions, Jake secured his place in the main event by qualifying in 23rd out of 40 open positions. It's important to understand that there are over 50 riders all vying for a spot in the main and only 40 make it. There are riders that follow the series every weekend and don't qualify. 23rd is an incredibly respectable position and the whispers of "He's not going to qualify" were completely silenced. Plus the start of a motocross race is 180 degrees from a road race. When the starting gate falls, 40 racers charge toward an ever narrowing turn one. It's an all-out, elbows and handle bar banging, don't back down brawl to get into turn one and almost any one stands a chance at getting the holeshot to lead the pack.

Jake Gagne at the finish line

Jake Gagne was able to finish the first Pro MX moto in 22nd overall and silenced the whispers of those who didn’t believe in Gagne’s chances of even making the main event

Jake Gagne is a master at controlling his nerves, always calm, cool and collected. As Gagne lined up at the gate for Moto One, he looked as if he had been doing this since the beginning. His years of racing motocross as a kid obviously hadn't faded and he was back in his element. The 30 second board was shown and the field of 40 riders began to focus on one thing, the holeshot! Jake cleared the first hurdle intact and was still within the top 25 following a great start.

The 30 minute plus 2 laps moto was on and Jake was settling in to a decent battle while adapting to the ever changing course conditions. As the race wore on, the ruts got deeper and deeper. Certain areas of the track began to dry out, while other areas turned into a mud bog. Towards the end of the moto, Jake entered a turn and hit a rut pretty hard. With his leg extended the force of the impact pulled his leg back behind him and aggravated his bruised hip flexor that he injured at a previous road race in Indianapolis. Jake was able to finish the moto and claim 22nd overall. When Gagne returned to the pits and talked the situation over with his crew, it was decided that the second moto would be forfeited. It was deemed too risky to go back out and race again when his final MotoAmerica round is a few short weeks away and the title is still up for grabs.

"Wow!! This was perhaps one of the greatest experiences in my life. I grew up riding motocross and riding with a lot of the guys that are regulars in the Pro Motocross series. I've always wanted to race in a pro outdoor and I can't believe that I actually got the chance to do that! When I qualified for the main, it was already a win for me,” said Jake Gagne. When the team had loaded the transporter and everyone had a chance to catch their breath, the full impact of what they had just done, sank in. They witnessed a rare athlete silencing the critics and fulfilling a lifelong dream.

The 2014-2015 Infiniti Q50 comes well equipped, including a powerful and fuel-efficient V6 engine, cutting-edge technology, a luxurious interior and sharp exterior styling. That’s not to say the factory design cannot be improved upon. Infiniti Q50

The 2014-2015 Infiniti Q50 replaced the 2013 Infiniti G37 sedan as part of a new restructured naming convention for the Infiniti brand

K&N engineers knew that with their expertise these luxury sport sedans from Infiniti are capable of more. Much consideration was put into the design of part number 69-7083TS for the 2014-2015 Infiniti Q50 sedans with a 3.7L V6 engine. The stock intake tract uses a dual intake set up fed by dual air boxes and air filters. K&N intake 69-7083TS replaces stock components with twin powder coated mandrel-bent aluminum intake tubes and dual K&N High-Flow Air Filters for superior airflow and superior performance. 69-7083TS incorporates two unique heat shields which serve to isolate the dual air filters from the warm air under the hood. This intake system provides improved performance and attractive silver powder coated aluminum Intake tubes to match the color of the engine bay.

K&N air filter RU-4960XD for the Infiniti Q50 air intake system

K&N’s 2014-2015 Infiniti Q50 dual air intake system uses two conical shaped K&N high-flow clamp on air filters, part number RU-4960XD

The result of this hard work and enthusiasm for performance is estimated at over 6 additional horsepower and 7 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. K&N’s Research and Development Department tested a 2014 Infiniti Q50 with a 3.7L V6 engine on our in-house dynamometer. Results showed horsepower increases throughout the entire RPM range which improves drivability at almost any speed. This air intake system uses two conical shaped high-flow air filters. K&N clamp on air filter, part number RU-4960XD, captures harmful particles, flows a large amount of air, and provides long service intervals. This K&N air intake system and air filters will perform for up to 100,000 miles before service is required, depending on driving conditions.

In addition, K&N offers a RX-4990DK Drycharger® filter wrap that can be used in conjunction with part number 69-7083TS. Drycharger filter wraps are durable pre-filters that are designed to filter large dirt particles and thus extend the time before the main air filter needs to be cleaned. These wraps can repel water while adding very little restriction to the airflow of the filter. The wraps specifically designed for this intake’s air filters are available in black, blue, red, and yellow.

Dillon Bassett Had to Fend Off Late NASCAR K&N Series East Challenge at Motordrome

Sunoco rookie of the year contender Dillon Bassett got his first career NASCAR K&N Pro Series East victory in the UPMC Health Plan 150, but it wasn't without some drama. Bassett made his 10th career NASCAR K&N Pro Series start and his previous best finish was a sixth in the season opener at Florida's New Smyrna Speedway. The 17-year-old from Winston-Salem, North Carolina became the 100th different winner in series history. To put the number 44 Bassett Gutters Ford in Victory Lane, Dillon had to sit through two lengthy late-race red flags, and then fend off a fierce challenge from Austin Hill in the closing laps.

Dillon Bassett took the lead in the UPMC Health Plan 150 from NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship points leader William Byron, who led a race-high 92 laps, on Lap 94. Asphalt issues on the front stretch necessitated a pair of red flags and subsequent caution periods starting on Lap 101. When the race finally went back to green on Lap 120, Austin Hill charged from third to first and it looked like Bassett's first win would have to wait. However, Dillon was able to maintain his momentum on the outside and wrestle the lead back on Lap 125 before he drove away to a 3.357-second victory.

Race winner Dillon Basset said, "Those last 20 laps were absolutely crazy. On the restart we spun the tires a bit. It left enough room for the 22 (Austin Hill) to get up under us. We just kept digging, never gave up, and got the lead back on the outside."

Fellow Sunoco Rookie of the Year candidate Rico Abreu mounted a late charge to finish second, while Hill settled for third. Afterward Abreu commented, "Saved our tires as much as we could the whole race. Got going there at the end. Just wish we didn’t run so many caution laps at the end when they were trying to fix that hole because it really hurt us."

Scott Heckert, fresh off his win at Watkins Glen, drove the number 34 Project Lifesaver Chevrolet across the line in fourth, followed by J.J. Haley in fifth. William Byron finished 8 and as a result his championship lead shrunk to 12 points over Scott Heckert. Austin Hill sits 28 points back in third.

A disappointed Austin Hill said, "When we went back to green the 44 (Dillon Bassett) slid up the track. I knew that was my chance but he was able to get off the corners better than I was and was able to clear back by me. At the end of the race we started to get a four-wheel slide so I had to really stop the car to keep the car up under me."

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East returns to the track with a road-course race: the Biscuitville 125 at Virginia International Raceway on Saturday, August 29th, 2015.
