K&N Air Intake under the hood of a Ford Fusion Turbo
Just five years ago, the aftermarket industry for interior electronics and technology in automobiles still had a leg up on factory stereo and connectivity technology. Just five years ago, Ford was an afterthought to Japanese and European manufacturers. Well... that was five years ago. Times have changed, and Ford is thriving with new and exciting models full of refinement, technology, power, and fuel economy. The fully redesigned 2013 to 2016 Ford Fusion are prime examples of the changing times, boasting powerful and fuel efficient engines wrapped in Aston Martin-esque styling, and showing owners what it truly means to have technology and connectivity in the cabin. With 240 horsepower, 270 pound feet of torque, and 33 miles per gallon highway from the 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder engine, performance is alive and well with the new Fusion. Owners of these impressive vehicles can get a guaranteed increase in horsepower and torque above what the factory delivers with a K&N 63-2585 Aircharger performance air intake system.
K&N Air Intake System for 2013 to 2016 Ford Fusion Turbo
The 63-2585 air intake is expert-engineered for the 2013 to 2016 Ford Fusion with the 2.0 liter turbocharged motor. The backbone of this system is the high-density polyethylene intake tube. It's design helps to minimize restriction and streamline airflow into the engine while providing a more subtle factory aesthetic under the hood. The 63-2585 performance air intake is equipped with a K&N RC-1637 oversized conical air filter to provide excellent filtration efficiency and engine protection. The filter utilizes K&N's oiled cotton gauze air filter media so the filter doesn't just perform well - it's also washable, reusable and can go for up to 100,000 miles between cleanings, depending on driving conditions. The air filter is also shrouded by a heat shield, helping to protect incoming air from radiant heat under the hood.
Dyno Chart for K&N 2013 to 2016 Ford Fusion Turbo Air Intake 63-2585
K&N is the world leader in performance air intake systems and that reputation is built on many factors, one of which being horsepower and torque gains. On the dyno, the 63-2585 air intake system produced an estimated gain of 10 horsepower at 5,185 rpm and 9.6 pound-feet of torque at 4306 rpm over the stock air intake system. Those are substantial gains that will help your engine breathe easier and make horsepower more efficiently.
Performance air intake 63-2585 comes with step-by-step instructions and can be installed in about 90 minutes or less with basic hand tools. This system is also backed by K&N's famous Million Mile Limited Warranty so owners can rest assured that their purchase is covered for the life of their vehicle.
The Ford Fusion has helped Ford stand out from the crowd in the sedan segment with some very heavy hitters. It doesn't look like things are going back to how they once were anytime soon. So what makes one Fusion owner stand out from other Fusion owners? What takes the Ford Fusion to the next level? Installing a K&N 63-2585 Aircharger performance air intake system.
Any lingering questions concerning the new K&N Mustang RTR’s prospective for blistering speed were unequivocally resolved the weekend of April 5th and 6th. Following their impressive inaugural showing at Sonoma Raceway, up next for Dave Martis and the K&N Motorsports team on their NASA American Iron series schedule was Button Willow Raceway Park, a few klicks outside Bakersfield, California.
K&N Mustang RTR
“Saturday’s race went well,” reported Martis, K&N’s R&D Manager and driver/builder of the RTR. “I qualified P4 and raced to second place through most of the race behind Corey Weber’s Agent 47 Mustang. Then two laps from the end, I looped it trying a late braking move and ended up in fifth. That night my back started bothering me. Sunday morning I was in a lot of pain. My back was jacked-up from the Saturday’s race.”
“Fellow racer Ryan Walton’s engine blew up during Saturday’s race. He’s a really good conscientious driver, so I asked him if he would sub for me Sunday. He said sure. He took the car out for the morning practice and he was a couple of seconds faster a lap than the competition.”
After their first outing, in which Martis drove the K&N Mustang powered by a 387 horsepower Ford Coyote 5.0-liter engine to two solid fourth place finishes, he remarked that the handling wasn’t yet in the zone. Then at Buttonwillow, the K&N crew would be called on to redial the handling once again to better suit Walton’s driving.
"We made some adjustments to get the car handling better to his liking and he qualified on the pole,” Martis said. “During the race, he and Corey battled back and forth for the lead. The car’s handling still wasn’t quite right and Ryan spun. He caught back up to the leader, only to spin again. He caught the leader once again, but got blocked by an out of class Corvette who got in the way, and kept him from making a last second move for the win.”
Built in close cooperation with their many exceptional partners, the K&N Mustang RTR will be back in action on May 3rd and 4th at Spring Mountain Motorsports Park in Pahrump, Nevada. This Southern California Region NASA race will be a crossover with NASA Arizona.
RJ Anderson was literally born into racing. His Dad, Randy Anderson, was crew chief for the legendary Walker Evans for 30 years. So it was no stretch for him to follow in his footsteps and pursue the sport. At about age 12 he started out with Go Karts, but after attending a CORR race with his dad at the first Chula Vista Racetrack, which was the debut of Trophy Kart racing, he was hooked! They were able to put a program together and raced the remainder of the season. RJ says its crazy that it was only 7 years ago!
K&N sponsored RJ Anderson in his Monster Energy Polaris RZR Pro-2 Truck
He has progressed through the years from Trophy Kart to UTV’s where he earned the 2009 M3SX Pro UTV Championship, and then, in 2011, he won the Lucas Oil Off Road Pro UTV Championship. Also, in 2011 he added the Superlite class to his schedule and was the Superlite Challenge Cup winner in addition to earning Pro-Lite Rookie of the Year racing the Polaris RZR. 2012 was a stellar year for RJ, and by racing a Polaris RZR in Pro-Lite he was able to claim the Championship. He was also awarded LOORS Driver of the Year, Dirt Sports Magazine Short Course Driver of the Year, and Crash of the Year. In 2013, he claimed the Terracross Championship.
For 2014, RJ is excited to add yet another class to his schedule with the addition of the #37 Polaris RZR sponsored Monster Energy Pro-2 truck! New sponsors also include BF Goodrich, Rigid Industries and Polaris Engineered Lubricants.
RJ says, “In 2009 we were developing our Polaris RZR and were under powered compared to a lot of other manufacturers in the class. We knew we needed to partner with the best brands possible in order to give us the best package possible so we reached out to K&N and have had an awesome partnership ever since! In off road racing we put our equipment to the test in a very dirty and rough environment. There is no other filter I would trust to bolt on top of our 900 horsepower engine!”
