Austin Hill’s 2015 NASCAR K&N Pro Series season got off to a great start when he claimed his first 21 Means 21 Coors Light Pole Award for qualifying in 18.483 seconds at 93.491 MPH

Austin Hill finished the 2014 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season with back-to-back wins in the year’s final races at Greenville Pickens Speedway and Dover International Speedway. Despite the all-new NASCAR K&N Pro Series race car chassis and body, Hill managed to continue this momentum into the 2015 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season opener at New Smyrna Speedway just south of Daytona International Speedway.

Austin Hill is part of the 2014-15 NASCAR Next program designed to help promote young drivers in the NASCAR national and touring series. Hill made his debut in the in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East at Columbus Motor Speedway in 2012 and recorded his first win in September of 2013. It took another year before Hill claimed the top spot in a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race and it seems as if that win may have given him the confidence he needed to chase down a NASCAR championship.

Hill’s 2015 season got off to an excellent start when he claimed his first 21 Means 21 Coors Light Pole Award for his qualifying time of 18.483 seconds at 93.491 miles per hour. He took this push with him as the race began on the .48-mile high-banked oval race track just south of Daytona. Hill would go on to lead all 150 laps of the race, with only a small challenge coming from rookie Dalton Sargeant on a restart. “I was getting worried on the restarts, five laps was about when my car would really start to get up and really go,” Hill said. “So about five laps I would have to hold them off and then it would finally get going.”

Austin Hill’s only challenge was NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Rookie contender Dalton Sargeant

Austin Hill’s only challenge came from NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Rookie of the Year contender Dalton Sargeant and the number 51 Galt Chevrolet on a green-white flag restart

The next NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race is on April 4th at Greenville Pickens Speedway

The next NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race will be on April 4th at Greenville Pickens Speedway for the Greenville 150 in South Carolina where Austin Hill is the current defending champion

Dalton Sargeant made quite a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debut in the Hart to Heart Breast Cancer Foundation 150 at New Smyrna Speedway. Sargeant started ninth following an engine change that morning; however he wasted no time moving toward the front of the pack. “It was just a car length off of first, so it’s a bit disappointing,” said Sargeant. “But overall for my first race in the K&N Pro Series East, we had a really good run.” Dalton is a Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender.

Gray Gaulding finished third in his Krispy Kreme Chevrolet, Scott Heckert finished fourth, and another Rookie of the Year contender, Kyle Benjamin, rounded out the top five. The next NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race will be on April fourth at Greenville Pickens Speedway for the Greenville 150. Austin Hill won the last NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at that track, and will certainly be hoping for another successful run in Greenville, South Carolina.

Upgrade 3.6L Pentastar Ram 1500 Models with More Performance from K&N Air Intake

2013-2014 Ram 1500 3.6L Pentastar produces horsepower with K&N intake

The technologies incorporated into the 2013-2014 Ram 1500 3.6L Pentastar V6, helps this V6 engine produce more horsepower than larger V8 engines from just a few years ago

While the fourth generation Ram 1500 pickup, formerly referred to as the Dodge Ram 1500, has been in production since 2008 it wasn’t until the 2013 model year that the Ram received the increasingly popular corporate engine known as the 3.6L Pentastar V6. The 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine has found its way into several Dodge, Chrysler, Ram, and Fiat models as well as the Volkswagen Routan minivan. Horsepower ratings vary from model to model, however the Dodge Ram 1500 has received the most highly tuned version rated at 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque.

2013-2014 Dodge Ram 1500 3.6L K&N cold air intake system

The aluminum air intake tube of the 2013-2014 Dodge Ram 1500 3.6L intake system combined with the superior airflow and superior performance of a K&N air filter can free up horsepower and torque

The technologies incorporated into the 3.6L Pentastar V6, such as dual overhead camshafts with dual variable valve timing, and all aluminum construction help this V6 engine produce more horsepower than the larger V8 engines of just a few years ago. Combine the power and technology of the 3.6L Pentastar V6 with an 8-speed Torqueflite8 automatic transmission and the 2013-2014 Ram 1500 3.6L boasts best in class EPA estimated fuel efficiency.

Ram 1500 engineers are required to work within a strict set of parameters, which is why aftermarket companies like K&N air filters are able to step in to upgrade horsepower and performance for some of the most advanced vehicles on the road. By replacing the restrictive factory air filter box and disposable air filter with a K&N air intake system your engine is able to breathe easier which frees up more horsepower and torque. Most K&N air intake systems can be easily installed in about 90 minutes with basic hand tools and can provide one of the best horsepower bangs for the buck.

K&N Ram 1500 3.6L air intake system dyno tested to reveal increased horsepower

K&N Ram 1500 3.6L air intake system, number 77-1564KS, was installed on a stock 2014 Ram 1500 3.6L pickup truck and dyno tested to reveal increased horsepower and torque

The mandrel-bent aluminum intake tube of the 2013-2014 Dodge Ram 1500 3.6L air intake system features a smooth inner surface and is designed to straighten airflow and reduce turbulence. The silver powder coated aluminum air intake tube combined with the superior airflow and superior performance of an oversized K&N air filter considerably reduces air intake tract restriction. Additionally, the K&N 2013-2014 Dodge Ram 1500 3.6L air intake system incorporates a vehicle specific heat shield and air intake scoop. The black powder coated heat shield serves to deflect engine eat from entering the air filter while the incorporated air intake scoop directs cooler outside air from the 2013-2014 Ram 1500’s stock air inlet.

K&N air intake systems are designed to provide a guaranteed increase in horsepower than you can actually feel. All the features of the 2013-2014 Dodge Ram 1500 3.6L air intake system have been dyno proven to improve horsepower, which will also increase the rate of acceleration. K&N 2013-2014 Ram 1500 3.6L air intake system 77-1564KS was installed on an otherwise stock 2014 Ram 1500 3.6L pickup truck and dyno tested to reveal increased horsepower and torque numbers across the entire RPM range. At its peak output K&N 77-1564KS produced an estimated additional 11.98 more horsepower and 14.87 more lb-ft of torque. That increase in horsepower can be extremely useful when towing, going uphill, or even merging onto a highway.

K&N stands behind its products by offering one of best warranties in the business. K&N products for on-road vehicles are backed by the 10-year/million mile limited warranty. After Over 20 Years of Heartbreak Steve Williams Gets Wally for NHRA Win at Pomona

Steve Williams won the final round of Super Gas competition in his 1963 Chevrolet Corvette

Steve Williams, K&N’s Chief Engineering Officer, pilots two cars in the NHRA Sportsman classes including this 1963 Chevrolet Corvette bodied Super Gas roadster & a TNT Super Comp dragster

Steve Williams, who serves as Chief Engineering Officer for K&N Engineering, Inc. in Riverside, California has been racing drag cars for over 25 years. During this time Williams has earned four NHRA Division 7 championship titles and has amassed over 40 “Wally” trophies. Eight of those trophies had been for national single-event wins. However, during the last 25 years Steve Williams has had a string of bad luck when it comes to racing at his home track, and the birthplace of NHRA drag racing in Pomona, California. “I’ve had the worst luck at Pomona over the last 20 years, but this weekend the car was flawless,” said Williams.

Steve Williams lined up against Hollis Colleasure in the final round of Super Gas competition at the 55th annual Circle K Winternationals held at the The Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, California. This race signaled the beginning of the 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Williams was behind the wheel of his 1963 Chevrolet Corvette bodied Super Gas roadster taking on Colleasure and his 1927 Ford. The starting light, nicknamed the Christmas Tree, signals the beginning of the race by lighting a series of colored bulbs and varies in length to keep drivers on their toes. According to Williams “It was a long tree with a lot of glare, making it hard to see the lights.” Steve’s bad luck streak was broken when his opponent Colleasure left the line too early, triggering the red light, and handing the win over to Williams.

Steve Williams couldn’t believe it when he saw his win light come on at the end of the track and he was ecstatic to get his first win at the famed Pomona race track in front of friends & family

Steve couldn’t believe it when he saw his win light come on at the end of the track. He was ecstatic, not only because it was his first win at the famed Pomona race track, but also because all his friends and family were there to see him win. Steve isn’t able to take his wife and daughter with him to all the NHRA races, so he was happy to have finally won on his home turf. Williams is 59 years old and admitted he won’t have too many more races. “If I had retired from racing without winning at Pomona, I would have always had regrets,” said Williams. “I can finally cross that one off the bucket list.”

Steve Williams runs a second race car; a TNT Race Cars built dragster, in the Super Comp class. Williams was doing well in the Super Comp class but was ultimately beaten in the fourth round by Guy Aguayo, who got a quicker start. Steve is quick to admit that he couldn’t be an accomplished drag racer, head of R&D for K&N Filters, and a family man without tremendous support from a great group of people he surrounds himself with. “None of this would be possible without the support of my wife, my daughter Shelby, and my crew,” said Williams.

Steve has gotten his 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season off to a terrific start with his win during the Circle K Winternationals held at the The Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, California. Hopefully this win signals more great things to come in the 2015 NHRA race season.

K&N Air Filter Results in Performance and Practicality for 2013, 2014 & 2015 Honda CRF250L

2013-2015 Honda CRF250L dual-sport motorcycle air filter by K&N

Owners of 2013-2015 Honda CRF250L dual-sport motorcycles looking to upgrade the performance of their bike can do so with the high-flow air filter technology incorporated into K&N replacement air filter, part number HA-2513

Modern motorcycles have become highly advanced specialized machines which, as a result, mean they have become expensive to buy as well as maintain. For example, the 2015 BMW Motorrad S1000RR boast an incredible 199 horsepower, however that kind of horsepower and acceleration comes with a hefty $15,500 price tag. Conversely, the plush 2015 Honda Goldwing offers hours of comfortable touring and loads of technology, but has a starting price of nearly $24,000 and weighs almost 1,000 lbs. This trend in motorcycles is the complete opposite of what made companies like Honda so successful to begin with. An outcry from the motorcycle industry for a return to the roots of Japanese motorcycles has resulted in several new down-to-earth offerings from the big four Japanese motorcycle manufacturers. One such example is the Honda CRF250L dual-sport motorcycle first introduced in 2013.

K&N performance air filter for 2013-2015 Honda CRF250L dual-sport

K&N performance air filter, number HA-2513, for 2013-2015 Honda CRF250L dual-sport motorcycles includes an application specific air filter frame to ensure a tight seal even in rough riding conditions

The Honda CRF250L takes advantage of sharing most of its engine components with the wildly popular CBR250R entry-level sport bike. Shared componentry is great at keeping costs in check and the CRF250L is able to come in cheaper than every other bike in its class. With CRF motocross bike inspired styling, easy maintenance and legendary Honda reliability, the CRF250L is sure to capture the attention of many first time motorcycle buyers. The Honda CRF250L dual-sport motorcycle combines the best of several worlds; on-road or off-road capabilities, a low price point with modern features, as well as fuel efficiency and many smiles per gallon. Adding a K&N motorcycle air filter to this recipe of success will only help to sweeten the deal.

2013-2014 Honda CRF250L K&N air filter uses special cotton gauze formed into deep 1-1/4” pleats for high airflow

The 2013-2015 Honda CRF250L K&N replacement air filter uses special tight weave cotton gauze formed into deep 1-1/4” pleats for high airflow without sacrificing filtration

Magazine reviews of the Honda CRF250L describe the engine as free-revving but low on torque, no doubt because of its 250 cc displacement. Owners of 2013, 2014 and 2015 Honda CRF250L dual-sport motorcycles looking to upgrade the performance of their bike can do so with the high-flow air filter technology incorporated into K&N replacement air filter HA-2513. The K&N 2013-2015 Honda CRF250L dual-sport motorcycle air filter is designed to fit into the stock air filter box without any need for modifications. K&N performance air filter HA-2513 includes an application specific air filter frame to ensure a tight seal even in rough riding conditions. K&N replacement air filters are made with specially woven cotton gauze. Because cotton, by nature, is more breathable than paper, K&N replacement air filters can flow more air than a typical paper air filter. More air can result in increased performance, improved throttle response, and potentially quicken acceleration.

It’s no secret that a 2013-2015 Honda CRF250L dual-sport motorcycle will encounter some severe off-road dust conditions. That is why K&N designs its air filters to increase performance without sacrificing filtration efficiency or engine protection. The 2013, 2014 and 2015 Honda CRF250L dual-sport air filter uses design elements that go above and beyond our standard on-road replacement air filters. K&N used its special tight weave cotton gauze sandwiched between wire mesh to form extra deep 1-1/4” pleats. 1-1/4” deep pleated tight weave cotton filter media allows this filter to outflow the original air filter, hold more dirt for long service intervals, and offer 98.98% filtration efficiency. Filtration testing results, following the internationally recognized ISO 5011 protocol, are available for K&N 2013-2015 Honda CRF250L dual-sport motorcycle replacement air filter HA-2513.

Besides the potential for increased performance, a K&N replacement air filter is practical because it is washable and reusable. Similar to a cotton t-shirt or a pair of denim jeans, the K&N cotton gauze air filter media allows a K&N replacement air filter to be repeatedly washed and reused. The ability to wash and reuse a K&N replacement air filter is perhaps more exciting than the increased performance that comes with additional airflow. When the cost of repeatedly replacing the disposable original equipment Honda motorcycle air filter is taken into consideration, a K&N air filter will pay for itself after just a few cleanings. Plus the extra deep 1-1/4” pleats and high-flow cotton gauze allow for long service intervals. K&N HA-2513 can be washed and made like new using one of the K&N Recharger air filter service kits. K&N cleaning products are also available in larger sizes for off-road enthusiasts who need to clean their K&N air filter more often.

As a dual-sport motorcycle, the K&N replacement air filter or the 2013-2015 Honda CRF250L is backed by a one year limited warranty. The K&N 2013-2015 Honda CRF250L replacement air filter is designed to provide increased performance, reusability, and long air filter service intervals without any need for modifications or tuning for the following Honda models:

2015 Honda CRF250L 250
2014 Honda CRF250L 250
2013 Honda CRF250L 250

K&N high-flow replacement air filter HA-2513 serves as an air filter cross reference for the OE Honda Air filter number 17220KZZ900.

Kurt Chase of Automotive Edge at it Again With K&N Teacher of The Month Award

Ms. DeFord was awarded teacher of the year

Ms. DeFord, a special education assistant, was left a single mom after her husband passed and she is now supporting two children, with another baby boy due in March, on her own

Kurt Chase, host of the Dallas/Fort Worth based radio program The Automotive Edge, feels a calling to give back to the local community. For years Kurt made a comfortable living working in and running new car dealerships across the great state of Texas. The long hours and stress of running a car dealership began to eat away at Kurt and finally he decided that no amount of money was worth missing out on his kids’ childhood. Kurt began to provide seminars to the car buying public to help them save money on both automotive purchases and service. This led to the formation of The Automotive Edge radio show and his associated philanthropic causes.

One such charitable cause is the K&N air filters sponsored Teacher of the Month award. Every month listeners email Kurt to nominate a deserving teacher and explain why this teacher stands out from others. With the recognition as K&N Filters Teacher of the Month award comes an automotive makeover complete with K&N air filter, oil filter and cabin air filter. In addition to the automotive makeover, the winning teacher receives money and/or gift certificates to help with classroom expenses.

Ms. Crystal DeFord works as a Paraprofessional (assistant) in the special education program at Bear Creek Elementary in the Fort Worth suburb of Euless, Texas. Ms. DeFord lost her husband Andrew this past October when a car pulled out in front of his motorcycle. Ms. DeFord was left a single mom supporting two children, with another boy due in March. Funeral expenses, hospital bills, and of course all the usual living expenses have left Ms. DeFord with a heavy load upon her shoulders. But in spite of all she has been through, her co-worker Brittany Rhea says “She still comes to work with a big smile on her face and puts on a big smile on all of our kids’ faces.” Brittany Rhea continued to say “She is a role model to all and she always pushes all of us to keep going even if things get difficult.”

Unfortunately the public education system lacks the funds to provide many classroom necessities. This leaves teachers to spend their own money, fund raise, or ask for donations to meet the educational needs of their students. Items like Velcro, printer cartridges, Post-It Notes, and dry erase markers are like gold to public school teachers. As Ms. DeFord works in a special education classroom snacks are a necessity and the teachers must personally buy them on a weekly basis. Ms. DeFord was awarded with monetary contributions, as well as a gift card to Walmart, to help offset the costs of teaching the upcoming generation.

K&N is proud to be a sponsor of The Automotive Edge radio show and the Teacher of the Month award. Kurt Chase is making a difference in the Dallas Fort Worth area by helping hundreds of people to save thousands of dollars as well as giving back to the community that has made him what he is today.
