Few cars have attained the cult status and impacted a modern car manufacturer the way the iconic BMW 2002 did for Bavarian Motor Works (BMW), which is why the Clarion Corporation of America chose a 1974 BMW 2002 for a restoration project under the new Clarion Builds program. This project would be more accurately described as a resto-mod since Clarion Builds plans to not only restore the car to factory condition but to also enhance key components of the ‘74 2002. Clarion Builds will bring the O2 up to modern standards without sacrificing what made the little BMW a success over 40 years ago.

Restoration of the Clarion Builds 1974 BMW 2002 is has been underway for some time now and began with a complete tear down as the first task, followed by extensive rust repair. Once the body was back to like-new condition, the crew at Diamond Hills Collision Center applied a fresh coat of primer and a treated the O2 to a shiny new factory Fjord Blue paint job. Knowing the flaws inherent to assembly on a factory production line, the body and the paint of the Clarion Builds 1974 BMW 2002 are certain to look better than new.

Following the meticulous machining and assembly of the BMW 2002’s 2.0-liter engine, the Coupe King began the process of bolting the Clarion Builds 1974 BMW 2002 back together

Coupe King has gone through the well-worn BMW 2.0-liter engine making repairs and upgrades at the same time to ensure the Clarion Builds BMW 02 performs better than it did 40 years ago

With the paint and body work complete, the Clarion Builds 1974 BMW 2002 was trailered back to the CoupeKing BMW specialist shop for assembly. CoupeKing has gone through the well-worn BMW 2.0-liter engine making repairs and upgrades at the same time. CP custom forged pistons, a balanced crankshaft, an aftermarket camshaft and a new heavy-duty valve train all meticulously machined and assembled will ensure this car performs better than it did forty years ago.

Once engine assembly was finished, it was time to start bolting the 1974 Clarion Builds BMW 2002 back together. Suspension, brakes, wheels, and tires will be all new units from aftermarket companies such as Wilwood Brakes, BBS Wheels, and Toyo tires. Clarion Builds plans to install an aftermarket exhaust from Magnaflow, and a custom K&N air intake system before the project is completed. Currently, Clarion Builds is outfitting a modern audio and video entertainment system in the 1974 BMW 2002 before the new interior and upholstery is installed.
