Fans line up to meet and get an autograph from the 8 drivers in the K&N Horsepower Challenge at the K&N Truck & Trailer

NHRA Pro Stock drivers Greg Anderson and Jason Line met in the final of the 2016 K&N Horsepower Challenge at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. On the line was $50,000 in prize money and a custom trophy, but there was a little more at stake in the final this year. Anderson was shooting for his fifth K&N Horsepower Challenge victory. It would give him more wins than any other driver in the 30 years of the K&N Horsepower Challenge. Line was in search of his first K&N Horsepower Challenge win and a chance to make up for some missed opportunities.

As Pro Stock teammates in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, the two drivers know each other well. They know each other’s tactics and strategies. They even know each other’s cars. In the final, Anderson won the K&N Horsepower Challenge at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and forged his name in drag racing history.

He won for the fifth time in the 30th running of the K&N Horsepower Challenge, a bonus race in the NHRA Drag Racing Series for the Pro Stock drivers. Anderson won $50,000 and the trophy with his fifth win, breaking a tie he held with Kurt Johnson for the most Horsepower Challenge wins, who won four Horsepower Challenges.

“It’s really cool. Kurt and I have a great history; we go back a long way, we raced together a long time,” Anderson said. “I owe so much of what I’m doing today to those people. I owe a lot to them. I respect them, and it’s great any time you can beat either one of their records. I feel great about that.”

Anderson, driver of the Summit Racing Equipment Camaro, said after winning the K&N Horsepower Challenge on April 2 in Las Vegas that he wants to add to his total. “I look forward to finding way to make the number bigger,” Anderson said. “But it’s cool to be the winningest driver. I didn’t even realize it’s been 30 years we’ve had this race. That’s a lot of chances for people to win, and somehow I’ve won the most of anybody over 30 years. That’s incredible to me.”

The final race was a little anticlimactic, Anderson said. He faced Line, his KB Racing teammate, in the final. But both drivers had trouble at the starting line. Line’s car was leaking oil during the burn out. He shut his car down before the green light. Anderson’s car shook off the starting line. He shut his car down and coasted down the strip to a 12.33 second pass.

“I’m going to take that win and move forward and try to add to it when we come out next year, and the first thing that I have to realize is it’s not an easy deal,” Anderson said. “You have to do the best you can for a year to qualify for it. The last two years I haven’t been able to qualify for it — that shows you how tough it is. I’ll do the best I can racing this year because I love racing this race, and hopefully we can come back next year and shoot for Number 6.”

Greg Anderson and Jason Line race for the 2016 K&N Horsepower Challenge Championship in the final round matchup

The K&N Horsepower Challenge is made up of eight drivers. The top-seven qualifiers are seeded by points in the NHRA Pro Stock standings. The eighth driver is voted in by fans in an online campaign and on social media. Anderson was the top qualifier in the K&N Horsepower Challenge and beat Jeg Coughlin Jr. in the first round, who was voted into the field by fans. Anderson beat Chris McGaha in the semifinals before facing Line in the final. Anderson also won the K&N Horsepower Challenge in 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2011. He has two other victories over Line in finals this year, both coming on holeshots. Line won his first-round race over Shane Gray and defeated Erica Enders, the 2015 K&N Horsepower Challenge champion, in the semifinals.

“That’s the third race in a row that I’ve kind of dodged a bullet,” Anderson said. “He’s got a bad hot rod right there. He’s going to be the man to beat this year. He’s driving great. Obviously, something went wrong, and I feel bad for him. It’s a heck of a letdown. I’m sorry that we didn’t put on a better show for you.”

Eva Mack, a fan from New Hope, Pa., was the other big winner, taking home the 2016 K&N Horsepower Challenge Special Edition Toyota Tacoma. Mack one was on eight fans drawn at random from K&N’s online sweepstakes. She was paired with Anderson during an on-site random pairing at the track on Friday.

“I want to thank the Toyota people for giving away a truck to a lucky fan; that makes you feel better than anything else,” Anderson said. “I feel great about getting to hand over the keys to a lucky lady from Pennsylvania more than anything else.”

Mack, a retired special education teacher, said when she met Anderson after winning the Toyota Tacoma, she became a fan. “He was a total gentleman,” she said. She also said after meeting the other contestants that she wished they would have won too.

“My race experience is more NASCAR, as I have been to Pocono with my brother,” Mack said. “I found drag racing much easier to follow.”

Her first thought was to give the Toyota Tacoma to her son in Texas. But after sitting in it, she is having second thoughts. “Who doesn't need a truck from time to time?” she said. “After getting to sit in the driver's seat, I am thinking it could replace my car.”

This 2016 special edition Toyota Tacoma features Toyota Racing Development (TRD) parts, including Cat-back exhaust, an air intake system, off-road bead-lock wheels, and a custom K&N Horsepower Challenge themed graphic scheme. Special thanks to Toyota Racing for providing this year’s one-of-a-kind Toyota Tacoma!

K&N Cabin Air Filter for Acura MDX, Honda Odyssey and Honda Pilot Stops Allergens

Cabin Air Filter is designed for the 1999-2004 Honda Odyssey, 2001-2006 Acura MDX, & 2003-2008 Honda Pilot

K&N VF3004 Cabin Air Filter is designed for the 1999-2004 Honda Odyssey, 2001-2006 Acura MDX, & 2003-2008 Honda Pilot

The 1940 Packard 180 was the very first production car to offer air conditioning. Called 'Weather Conditioning', this one-speed air cooler stickered for $279, which is the equivalent of $4,759 in today's money. Automotive HVAC systems have come a long way in the last three-quarters of a century, and many of today's high-end vehicles offer filtered climate control systems. If you drive a 1999-2004 Honda Odyssey, 2001-2006 Acura MDX, or 2003-2008 Honda Pilot, then you have one of these systems. The idea is to filter out dust, dirt, and allergens like pollen and mold. By cleaning the "conditioned" air, you get a more relaxing environment, free of allergy causing contaminants and strange smells. But if you don't change that dirty cabin air filter once a year, you could actually be inhaling air with dangerous levels of contamination.

Cabin Air Filter is designed for the 1999-2004 Honda Odyssey, 2001-2006 Acura MDX, & 2003-2008 Honda Pilot

the Reusable K&N VF3004 Cabin Air Filter improves the air quality inside the 1999-2004 Honda Odyssey, 2003-2008 Honda Pilot & 2001-2006 Acura MDX

A cabin air filter is used to clean the cool/warm air before it's pumped through the vents. The OEM cabin air filter typically uses pleated paper to remove dirt and allergens as the air passes through it. These surface-loading filters hold the dirt on the surface, and that will cause it to clog as the dirt builds. Over time, that dirty cabin air filter will start to affect your lungs, and your allergies may get worse as well. It will also make the HVAC system work harder, as it forces air through the dirty, heavily restricted filter. This in turn, lowers your MPG's as the engine burns more fuel, powering your overburdened A/C and heating system. The K&N VF3004 Cabin Air Filter solves these problems, and it saves you money in the long-run, because it can be washed and reused for up to 10-years or 100,000 miles.

Made from a proprietary synthetic material, the VF3004 Cabin Air Filter benefits from K&N's many automotive filtration innovations. The number of pleats for example, are specifically chosen because they allow this high-flow cabin air filter to flow enough air to meet your Honda/Acura's HVAC specs, while simultaneously achieving excellent filtration efficiency. This means the electrostatically charged filter media can attract and hold the vast majority of the airborne contaminants that pass through it. Even microscopic particles will become trapped inside the web of synthetic fibers, and the dirt will remain inside the filter, keeping the air into your car clean and fresh. We recommend cleaning your K&N cabin air filter every 12-months/12,000 miles, using the K&N Cabin Air Filter Refresh Kit. You can also refresh the inside of your Pilot, Odyssey, or MDX, by cleaning the filter after pollen/allergy season.

K&N Cabin Air Filter Helps Hyundai and Kia Owners Breathe Easy and Save Money

Caption

The K&N VF2010 Cabin Air Filter improves air quality in the 2006-2011 Hyundai Azera, 2006-2010 Hyundai Sonata, 2011-2012 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2006-2010 Kia Optima and 2007-2010 Kia Magentis

Not too long ago, owning a Hyundai or Kia wasn’t something that you'd brag about. But these two South Korean automakers have spent billions of dollars to reinvent their image and product lines. Top spec models like the 2006-2011 Hyundai Azera, 2006-2010 Hyundai Sonata, 2011-2012 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2006-2010 Kia Optima, and 2007-2010 Kia Magentis now offer shocking amounts of luxury, at bargain prices. One of these high-end features is a filtered HVAC system, which is designed to prevent strange odors and allergens (like pollen and mold) from entering the cabin. However, owners are supposed to replace the cabin air filter every 6-12 months. Otherwise that dirty filter won’t do much to prevent contaminants and allergens from being inhaled by passengers. Plus, the engine will burn more gas trying to force air through the clogged HVAC filter.

Caption

The 2006-2012 Hyundai/Kia K&N VF2010 Cabin Air Filter is designed to be cleaned and reused

On a stock paper cabin air filter, dirt collects on the surface and between the folds/pleats. This will restrict airflow over time, reducing both filtration and HVAC system efficiency. A K&N VF2010 Cabin Air Filter on the other hand, uses an electrostatically charged filter media that traps dirt particles deep within a web of synthetic fibers. This allows air to continue to flow through the filter, even when it's dirty. The electrostatic charge then holds the contaminants in place, keeping them out of your car’s interior. Once the filter does get filled with dirt and dust, you can simply remove the filter (it's usually located behind the glove box) and clean it using the K&N Cabin Air Filter Refresher Kit. If the pollen gets particularly heavy in the spring, you can pull the filter out and clean it as often as you’d like to help alleviate allergy suffering.

Thanks to its unique design, the K&N VF2010 Cabin Air Filter is able to capture allergens and contaminants that are even smaller than the width of a human hair. K&N cabin air filters also offer excellent filtration efficiency, so the vast majority of dust and dirt particles will be removed from the air, along with allergy inducing contaminants like mold spores, pollen, mildew, germs, fungus and bacteria. This will greatly improve the air quality inside your vehicle and the increased airflow will keep your engine from using more fuel to push air through a clogged cabin air filter.

By combining rugged construction and superior filtration, the K&N VF2010 Cabin Air Filter is the only car HVAC filter that you'll need to buy for the next 10-years or 100,000 miles. In fact, all K&N cabin air filters are guaranteed by a 10-Year/Million Mile Limited Warranty, which coincides perfectly with your Hyundai/Kia warranty (this reusable filter won't void your warranty either). In addition, K&N makes a wide array of warranty-preserving performance parts for your Hyundai or Kia. K&N Cabin Air Filters Provide Allergen Filtration and HVAC Performance

K&N VF2046 Cabin Air Filters are designed to improve air quality in 2001-2009 GM minivans and compact crossovers

K&N VF2046 Cabin Air Filters are designed to improve air quality in 2001-2009 GM minivans and compact crossovers

If you wanted to air condition your car in the 1930's, you'd fill a big metal cylinder with water, and hang it over the passenger side window. As you drove down the road, air would flow into this 'evaporative air conditioner' and the water inside would cool the air before it dribbled into the cabin through a small vent. These "swamp coolers" weren't very effective by today's standards, but having mildly-less-hot "conditioned" air must have been really 'cool' at the time. Fast forward nearly a century, and automotive HVAC systems can "condition" the air to virtually any temperature, without using water. Many high-spec road warriors like the Chevy Venture, Oldsmobile Silhouette, Pontiac Montana, Buick Rendezvous, Buick Terraza, and Pontiac Aztec, also have filtered ventilation systems that can remove dirt and allergens from the air, before it ever leaves the vents. But if you don't change that cabin filter, all of that mold, pollen and dirt gets re-circulated back through the passenger compartment. Needless to say, you'll be inhaling contaminated air that can aggravate your allergies, and even harm your gas mileage. The K&N VF2046 Cabin Air Filter provides a permanent solution to these problems, and it's designed to be the last HVAC filter that you'll have to buy.

Caption

Stop allergy season in its tracks with a K&N VF2046 Cabin Air Filter

K&N introduced the world's first reusable high-flow cotton gauze air filter in 1969, and has remained at the forefront automotive filtration technology ever since. The K&N VF2046 Cabin Air Filter is the product of nearly 5 decades of air filter R&D, and it contains innovations that you just won't find in an OE cabin filter. The synthetic filter media for example, is designed to exceed the OEM HVAC airflow requirements, while simultaneously providing outstanding filtration efficiency. This means a K&N cabin filter can trap many of the airborne contaminants that pass through it, while still allowing great airflow. The electrostatically charged filter material keeps those dirt particles trapped in its multiple layers until you clean it. These filters can typically go for 12-months/12,000 miles between cleanings, but if you need to freshen the air after a dusty drive or heavy pollen season, just pop off the access panel inside the glove box, and clean both filters using the K&N Cabin Air Filter Refresh Kit.

During development, the K&N VF2046 Cabin Air Filter underwent numerous ISO 5011 filtration efficiency tests. This allowed engineers to fine-tune the filter design, so it could perform up to K&N standards of airflow and filtration efficiency. These tests demonstrated the filter's ability to remove and contain dirt and dust particles, along with allergens like pollen, mold, mildew, fungus, spores, germs, and bacteria. Once the performance had been verified, the K&N VF2046 filter was granted the K&N 10-Year/Million Mile Limited Warranty and put into production. So if your Chevy, Olds, Buick, Saturn or Pontiac minivan/crossover needs more than just a $0.99 air freshener, K&N can solve your HVAC air quality issues, without anything dangling from your rear-view mirror.

In addition to these reusable cabin filters, K&N makes an entire line of products that can improve the performance and efficiency of your Venture, Uplander, Silhouette, Montana, Aztec, Rendezvous, Tarraza or Saturn Relay. NASCAR K&N Pro Series at Kern Sees Todd Gilliland Fourth Win

Todd Gilliland celebrates his fourth straight NASCAR K&N Pro Series West win

Todd Gilliland celebrates his fourth straight NASCAR K&N Pro Series West win

NASCAR K&N Pro Series West rookie Todd Gilliland has his own version of the Fantastic Four.

Gilliland won the NAPA Auto Parts 150 at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, Calif. He has won his first four races in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and has joined a list of NASCAR greats that includes Dan Gurney, Tim Flock and Joey Logano. “We work as hard as we can. It’s been working out for us lately and we will continue to do that,” Gilliland said.

Gurney, an International Motorsports Hall of Famer, won his first four starts in the NASCAR Pacific Coast Late Model Series, the predecessor to the K&N Pro Series West. Gurney won his races in combination with the Grand National Series at California’s Riverside Speedway. The Pacific Coast Late Model Series started in 1954.

Flock, a NASCAR Hall of Famer, and Logano, who won the 2015 Daytona 500, won their first two starts in the K&N Pro Series. Gilliland’s win streak started in the K&N Pro Series West season finale in November at Phoenix International Raceway in Arizona. He won the K&N Pro Series East season opener at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida in February. He won this third race in a row at the K&N Pro Series West season opener at Irwindale Speedway in California. His fourth win in a row came at Kern County Raceway Park.

“He has no idea. He’s just a racer,” said David Gilliland, Todd’s father and a NASCAR veteran. “He’s setting records that aren’t easy to set, that are old, and with legends in the auto racing industry. It’s amazing what he’s been able to accomplish. We’re just really proud. He’s been really humble about this, and he’s just a happy kid. A happy 15-year-old.”

Bill McAnally, who owns Gilliand’s team, said he had some reservations about putting a 15-year-old in the driver’s seat of one of his cars. His worries have been put to rest.

“He’s just a very special young man that I’ve had the extreme pleasure to work with … It’s incredible,” McAnally said. “I was worried about the pressure bothering him. But he just rolls with it. It’s amazing.”

Gilliland had his challenges in the race at Kern County. A red flag caution stopped the race with 15 laps to go. On the restart, Gilliland dropped to third and didn’t move back to the lead until lap 142. He led the last nine laps to take the checkered flag.

“At that point everyone on the radio was just telling me we are still in this,” Gilliland said. “Don’t get my head down at all. We knew we had a super fast car. Just go for it and give it everything you got.”

Ryan Partridge took the lead on the restart after the red flag on lap 135. He was able to stay out front for six laps before Gilliland passed him.

“I’m not quite sure what happened on the restart behind us to bring out the red flag,” Partridge said. “I heard there was a car rolled over and what not. We rolled to the gas just a hair early but I waited for him to go. Once he saw me jump in front of him just a hair, he was playing games at that point.”

Partridge finished in second place for the second race in a row. Rookie Cole Rouse was third.

Gilliland won the pole and led a race-high 54 laps. Partirdge was out front for 45 laps. David Mayhew looked like a contender early in the race. He led for 31 laps, but gave up the lead to Partridge on lap 81. Mayhew cut a tire and fell back in the pack. He finished in sixth place.

Gilliland is the leader in the K&N Pro Series West standings after two races with 95 points. Partridge sits in second with 86. Chris Eggleston, the reigning K&N Pro Series West champion, is third with 81 points.

The next race in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West is at Tucson Speedway in Arizona on May 7. Gilliland will try to continue his winning streak at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee for the K&N Pro Series East race on April 16.
