2015 and 2016 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 Coyote Makes More Power & Sounds Better with K&N Intake

K&N Aircharger air intake system for the 2015-2016 Ford Mustang 2.3L Ecoboost eliminates restrictive factory parts for more HP and torque

The 2015 model year was huge for the Ford Motor Company. Ford introduced all-new versions of two of their most popular models, the Ford F150 and the Ford Mustang. The 2015 sixth generation Mustang has introduced a host of changes to the legendary Ford Pony Car. 2015 Ford Mustang models feature a fully independent rear suspension, and for the first time in nearly 30 years the Mustang can be equipped with a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine. But don’t worry, the 2015 Ford Mustang GT retains a V8 as its standard engine. The 5.0 badge has been synonymous with performance since the 302 cubic-inch engine was introduced in 1968. The 5.0L V8 found in 2015 Mustangs, and first introduced in 2011, shares the same displacement as the push-rod engine used through 1995 but takes advantage of technology derived from the 4.6L modular engine to far exceed power output of almost any 5-liter Mustang produced.

That’s not to say that even the 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft torque 2015 and 2016 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 can’t be improved upon with a performance upgrade from the biggest name in air filter technology, K&N®. Typically, the factory air intake tubing, stock air filter box, and disposable air filter is a significant point of restriction in modern fuel injected cars or trucks. Because of this fact, K&N has developed an Aircharger® air intake system, number 63-2590, for the 2015 and 2016 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-liter to eliminate restrictive factory components by replacing them with a roto-molded HDPE air intake tube coupled to an open element K&N reusable air filter for superior airflow and superior performance. The K&N reusable air filter RC-2960 included with the 2015 and 2016 Ford Mustang GT 5.0L intake is protected by an application specific air filter heat shield to help keep inlet air temperatures (IAT) within factory tolerances.

Reducing air intake tract restriction, straightening airflow, and maximizing the 2015 and 2016 Mustang GT’s ability to inhale with a K&N Aircharger intake helps this car put even more power to the ground. In-house dynamometer (dyno) testing showed an estimated horsepower increase of 17.41 HP and 21.01 lb-ft of torque on an otherwise stock 2015 and 2016 Ford Mustang GT 5.0. Torque is said to get you moving while horsepower keeps you moving. With that in mind, K&N Aircharger air intake 63-2590 will help 2015 and 2016 Mustang GT 5.0L owners accelerate quicker and go faster. More horsepower isn’t just for the race track, additional power can come in handy when accelerating onto a highway, or when passing a slow moving semi-truck. As an added benefit of installing a K&N air intake system, 2015 and 2016 Ford Mustang GT 5.0L owners will enjoy a more muscular engine sound befitting an American icon.

The K&N 2015 and 2016 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-liter air intake system 63-2590 is an easy to install performance upgrade that can be completed in about 90 minutes or less using basic hand tools, and by following K&N’s simple step-by-step instructions. It maintains all necessary factory connections and does not require any additional modifications be made to the vehicle for increased performance. K&N backs its air filters and air intake systems with a 10-year/million mile limited warranty so owners can rest assured that their intake system can stand up to the most demanding drivers. Whether 2015 or 2016 Ford Mustang GT owners use their pony car as a fun daily driver, or a track car, the K&N 63-2590 Aircharger Air Intake system will provide increased performance with better engine sound for years to come.

The Volkswagen (VW) Golf, initially the Volkswagen Rabbit in North America, almost single handedly spawned the “Hot Hatch” movement. The idea was simple, take an economy car, outfit it with a performance engine and suspension package, then suddenly the car was both sporty and practical. The same tradition of performance and practicality applies to the 2015 Volkswagen Golf 1.8-liter turbo engine and its various trim levels, including the 2015 Golf GTI. The GTI is equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged engine capable of producing 40 more horsepower and nearly 60 lb-ft more torque than the standard 2015 VW Golf 1.8T.

With a K&N® air intake system 69-9506TTK for 2015-2017 Volkswagen Golf 1.8T or GTI 2.0T models, an engine is able to overcome restriction, better utilize available airflow, and produce more horsepower and torque. A K&N Typhoon air intake eliminates the restrictive factory intake tubes, and sound baffling by replacing them with a mandrel bent aluminum air intake tube coupled to a high-flow washable and reusable K&N air filter. The aluminum air intake tube is protected with a flat black powder coat to ensure it looks just as good as it performs. Additionally, the 2015-2017 VW Golf 1.8L and GTI 2.0T K&N air intake system incorporates an application specific powder coated heat shield which blocks hot air from rising off the exhaust manifold into the air filter and reuses the factory fresh air inlet to introduce cooler air to the K&N air filter.

The design and testing of K&N 2015 Golf and GTI air intake 69-9506TTK resulted in dynamometer-proven increases in horsepower and torque across the entire RPM range. On the dyno, the 2015 VW Golf and GTI K&N intake produced an estimated additional 12.85 horsepower at a commonly used 3,933 rpm when installed on a 2015 Volkswagen GTI 2.0T. Equally beneficial to acceleration and driving performance is the estimated gain of 19.17 lb-ft of torque at 3,715 rpm. In addition to increasing horsepower, installation of a K&N air intake system will give the engine a sportier sound.

K&N’s July 2015 calendar page features one of the most classically customized post-war cars produced in the United States. The 1949 Ford was the first all-new automobile design introduced by the Big Three after World War II. The 1949 Ford is lovingly referred to as the "Shoebox Ford" for its slab-sided, "ponton" design, which ushered in modern streamlined car design. The 1949 Ford, along with its FoMoCo cousin, the Mercury Eight spawned the classic “Lead Sled” hot rod movement of the 1950’s. “Lead” referred to the molten metal body filler material used in repairing and customizing body panels as well as the extra weight added by the repair material, while the term "Sled” referred to the chopping and lowering of the car which gave an impression of “slip sliding” down the highway.

K&N Sponsored Team Yoshimura Suzuki Riders Score 3 Podiums in 2 Races at Barber

Roger Lee Hayden used the power and handling of his K&N filters equipped Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 to trip the scoring beam with a qualifying time of 1:26.054

K&N Supported Team Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing’s Roger Lee Hayden and Jake Lewis came away with another solid weekend of results in the MotoAmerica AMA Superbike series at the picturesque Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama. It was a quick start for Hayden, who qualified second in Superpole to start from the middle of the front row. He used the power and handling of his K&N filters equipped Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 to trip the scoring beam with a qualifying time of 1:26.054. Jake Lewis qualified fifth in the combined Superbike/Superstock 1000 session with a 1:26.469.

“That session was the best I’ve felt on the bike all year in qualifying,” Hayden explained. “There were a few things I was struggling with that seemed to be a lot better. I really focused on doing multiple fast laps in a row, not really chasing an outright lap time in order to help get a strong race set-up.” Meanwhile Jake Lewis conceded that he’s still figuring out qualifying the Superbike with this being just the fifth track visited so far in 2015. “Every track we go to it’s a new learning experience for me since I’m on the Superbike,” Lewis said. “Barber is a pretty technical track and sometimes I’m still getting the speed and handling of the bike sorted out for qualifying.”

In race one Roger Hayden took second place aboard his K&N performance filters equipped Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 a mere 0.397-seconds behind Josh Hayes

MotoAmerica Superbike race one at Barber Motorsports Park was setting up to be a great fight between Josh Hayes and Roger Lee Hayden in the closing laps, but a red flag on lap 16, due to fluid on the track, put an early end to the race and ruined a possible last-lap battle. The end result was Hayden, who led portions of the race, taking second place aboard his K&N performance filters equipped Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 with a mere 0.397-second margin between him and Josh Hayes.

Jake Lewis ran strong aboard his K&N equipped Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 leading early in race 2

Jake Lewis ran strong aboard his K&N equipped Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 leading early in race 2, ultimately finishing third in Superbike for race one and fourth in race two

In the second MotoAmerica Superbike race at Barber Motorsports Park Roger Lee Hayden again battled aboard his K&N performance filters equipped Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 for the lead with Cameron Beaubier and Hayes most of the race. However, in the last three laps Hayden lost touch with the leaders when he made a mistake and ran wide in a couple of turns on the same lap.

“I was giving it all I had just to stay with those guys. With about three or four laps to go I got into turn five way too deep and ran wide. I tried to make it all up going into the museum corner and ran wide again and those guys got a big gap. I knew I wasn’t going to catch them and I didn’t see any point in trying to chuck it down the road trying to, so I just brought it home,” said Hayden.

Roger Lee Hayden nailed down two podium finishes at Barber Motorsports Park while rookie Jake Lewis scored a third place podium

Jake Lewis ran strong at times in both races, actually leading early in race two. He ultimately finished third in Superbike in race one and fourth in race two. “It was a good weekend overall,” Lewis commented. “I was pretty close to the front, just a few tenths here and there, so I’m getting closer. In race one I stayed close and was able to learn a little bit and in the second race I didn’t quite have the pace I needed and I couldn’t catch them, so I backed it down a bit to make sure I got good points. I’m looking forward to moving on to Miller. I’ve had some good luck there in the past and our Suzuki will go good there because it has a couple of fast straightaways.”

These results, combined with a race one crash by series leader Cameron Beaubier, tightened up the MotoAmerica AMA Superbike standings after 10 races. Jake Lewis and Roger Lee Hayden are still third and fourth respectively in the series, but they each shaved away the points gap to the series leader, in the amount of four points for Lewis and 11 for Hayden.
