K&N pavement only race air filter, number E-3032R, utilizes special 2-ply cotton gauze and is built in a common 14” outside diameter

K&N has been making air filters for high performance applications since 1969. The oiled cotton gauze air filter design was first developed for off-road racing, where high rates of airflow and excellent filtration efficiency are essential ingredients in the recipe for success. Contrary to old-school thinking, K&N air filters can help to increase performance and protect valuable engines used in paved racing such as road courses, oval tracks, and drag racing. With tight tolerances found in expensive race engines people continue to race their cars without air filters. Even in paved racing circumstances, like drag racing, the air going into an engine needs to flow freely and be clean.

To help clear the hood of race cars using high-rise intake manifolds this K&N race filter is only 2” tall

To help clear the hood of race cars using high-rise intake manifolds, blowers, or little room to spare, this K&N race filter is only 2” tall

For extreme on pavement race use K&N offers air filters and complete air cleaner assemblies that utilize dry, 2-ply cotton gauze filter media and a large surface area to help minimize restriction and increase airflow to these heavy-breathing motors. K&N race-only 2-ply air filters will straighten turbulent airflow without adding noticeable restriction and are still able to offer an engine protection from track dust and debris. Whether a racer wants to replace a standard on-road air filter in their current setup, or finally put a race specific air filter on their engine, K&N probably has a race-only air filter to meet their needs.

K&N pavement only race air filter E-3032R utilizes this special 2-ply cotton gauze and is built in a common 14” round outside diameter. To help clear the hood of race cars using high-rise intake manifolds, blowers, or those that just have little room to spare, E-3032R is only 2” in height. The inside diameter of this race-only air filter is 12-1/4 inches. K&N racing only air filters are easy to wash and reuse with K&N Power Kleen air filter cleaner and are backed by K&N’s one-year unlimited mileage warranty against manufacturer defects or workmanship.

The Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc is the only exclusively female off-road rally in the world. Created in 1990, this ground-breaking event brings women between the ages of 18 and 65 together from more than 30 different countries in the Moroccan desert. Since its inception, the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles has been creating a new vision of automobile competition: no speed and no GPS, just old fashioned navigation, completely off-road. The Gazelle Rally is a return to the roots of Adventure. The women who take part in this rally, known as Gazelles, are of all ages, social backgrounds, nationalities and levels of off-road experience. Whether in a 4x4, Crossover, Quad, truck or motorcycle, they all come to take part in a unique competition. Instead of time or speed determining the winner of the Gazelle Rally, the women are charged with navigating from beginning to end in the shortest accumulated distance.

Team # 180, one of several women only teams representing the United States, consisted of Nicole Pitell-Vaughn and Jessi Combs in the K&N Filters equipped Total Chaos Fabrication Toyota Tacoma. Both women have a strong background in off-road racing. Nicole, along with her husband, owns Total Chaos Fabrication in Corona, California. Total Chaos Fab specializes in quality American-made off-road suspension components for trucks, especially Toyotas. Nicole handles marketing for Total Chaos and has experience behind the wheel of off-road desert trucks. Jessi Combs is a television personality and metal fabricator who appeared on Spike TV’s Xtreme 4X4 television program, and now co-hosts an AOL Autoblog Show, The List: 1001 Car Things To Do Before You Die. Jessi is no stranger behind the wheel of off-road trucks, having raced the infamous King of the Hammers multiple times, but it was decided that Nicole would drive while Jessi navigated during the 2015 Gazelle Rally.

2015 marked Nicole and Jessi’s first attempt at the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc and Team #180 in the K&N Filters equipped Total Chaos Fabrication Toyota Tacoma passed with flying colors. “We started off great, and experienced a really challenging first few days of getting the hang of the competition. We were sitting in 24th place at one point,” said Pitell-Vaughn. Never the less, Nicole and Jessi successfully completed the 9 day Rallye Aiicha des Gazelles, capturing every flag on every stage and logging the shortest distance against all the other first time competitors. The K&N supported team’s strategic moves and challenging decisions paid off earning them the highest placing finisher of all the American teams entered in the 2015 rally and a 10th place finish overall. “We made some great strategic decisions in the dunes where our Tacoma worked flawlessly. That gave us an edge over some of the other teams. We managed to climb in the rankings the following days and sat 10th overall on day 8. We maintained the position on the final day with less than a 2 km cushion. What an amazing experience,” Nicole Pitell-Vaughan stated.

Jessi Combs added, “Crazy to think that all the elements of a full functioning race team; communication, equipment, strategy, preparation, and assertiveness are magnified tenfold in a race where you barely break 50 mph over nine days of racing. Missing anyone of those components could lead to ultimate breakdown…mechanically, emotionally, navigationally, spiritually…and in the middle of the Moroccan Sahara. We are grateful for our final standings…it took mass amounts of effort from all our supporters and more determination than I could have ever estimated.”

K&N XStream Air Flow Top filter 66-1400R is made with fewer layers of cotton to provide even more airflow and less restriction than a standard XStream Air Flow Top

The #10 Team 4 Wheel Parts truck launched side by side through the air and made contact with another truck resulting in a brake issue for Greg Adler who settled for 6th place

Greg Adler, President & CEO of 4 Wheel Parts, started his racing career in Baja California, Mexico driving limited buggies in the SCORE series. After several years of valuable experience, he jumped into the full-size truck category driving powerful 800-horsepower Class 8 trucks. The Class 8 machines fit Greg well, and made for a smooth transition into the intense world of short-course off-road racing. Greg entered his first short-course race at Crandon International Raceway in 2004 in a Sportsman truck borrowed from veteran racer Evan Evans. That one race was all it took and Greg became hooked.

More than 10 years later K&N Filters sponsored driver Greg Adler is still short-course off-road racing and has worked his way up to the Pro-4 ranks in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORS). Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2015 LOORS season took place at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park in Lake Elsinore, California. Temperatures were in the 90’s, but that didn’t stop racers or spectators from flocking to the dry basin near the shores of Southern California’s largest natural freshwater lake. It was a double header weekend for the Lucas Oil Series with round five taking place on Saturday followed by round six the next day.

K&N sponsored Team 4 Wheel Parts found redemption in LOORS round 6 with a hard fought third place trophy and renewed momentum as they make their climb through the Pro4 standings

Greg Adler put together a strong qualifying effort in his K&N air filters equipped Pro-4 Ford F150 earning him a spot on the front row of the grid for Round 5. Following the drop of the green flag the Pro4 field charged into turn one and in the ensuing chaos Adler was shuffled back into the pack of 900HP machines. Once settled into his rhythm, Adler maintained sight of the leaders as he charged his way back into contention. Greg worked his way into fourth place and as he set his sights on a podium finish, Greg found himself battling with another competitor as they soared toward the track’s signature “ski jump.” The two trucks launched side by side through the air and in the process made contact. The contact resulted in a brake issue for Adler’s #10 Pro-4 truck forcing Adler to adjust his pace and settle for a 6th place result.

“We knew we had a lot of work to do after the fifth round,” commented Adler. Adding, “after the contact, we lost the brakes and you don’t have any idea how much you need them until you don’t have them. We had an issue with the transmission so we changed that out overnight as well but we knew that going into Sunday morning we were going to have the truck sorted out.”

Although Greg Adler was challenged for his spot through the final laps of round 6 at Lake Elsinore, he held his ground and brought it home

Although Greg Adler was challenged for his spot through the final laps of round 6 at Lake Elsinore, he held his ground and brought it home for his best finish of the 2015 season so far

Once again having qualified well, Greg Adler started from a second row position on the grid putting him toward the front of one of the most competitive Pro4 fields in recent memory. Holding his ground through the start, Greg pushed his way into third on the track as he worked to catch the leaders. With just a small handful of laps to go late in the race, a yellow flag brought the pack back together for a sprint to the finish. Although he was challenged for his spot through the final laps, Adler held his ground and brought the truck home for his best finish of the 2015 season so far. K&N sponsored Team 4 Wheel Parts found redemption with a hard fought third place trophy and renewed momentum as they make their climb through the Pro4 standings.

“Today was great for the team,” said Adler from the podium. “These guys work so hard to give me a fast truck, now we’re standing up here for not only them, but for everyone who supports us from the crew, to our sponsors and our fans.” For Adler, his strongest showing of the season was a reflection of the combined efforts of the veteran team. “This is the result of hard work from an experienced group of guys who do whatever it takes to get it done,” he said. “We accomplished our goal of qualifying strong and we ran consistent laps all weekend. We were holding strong through the race and the last restart made things interesting, but we were able to put the power down and hold them off. The payoff was a solid finish to the weekend and some momentum going into Utah.”

The 18-round Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series will head to the picturesque Tooele Valley, just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah for Rounds 7 & 8 at Miller Motorsports Park on June 20-21. The 2015 Lucas Oil Off Road calendar includes one more visit to Lake Elsinore this season in addition to California’s Glen Helen Raceway, stops in Reno & Las Vegas, Nevada and for the first time ever, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.

LOORRS Round five on Saturday began with RJ starting the Pro-Lite truck class race on the front row and quickly jumping into the lead taking the win in the K&N equipped #37 Pro-Lite

RJ Anderson led from the green flag to the checkers and got the first win of the season for the K&N filters equipped #37 Loanmart/South Point Pro-Lite but it wouldn’t be the last that weekend

As a follow up to the wet and frustrating Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series (LOORRS) rounds 3 and 4 at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, K&N sponsored RJ Anderson and the whole RJ Anderson Racing team was excited to be heading back to their home turf for LOORRS rounds 5 and 6 at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park where the team had some success earlier in the 2015 season.

Round five was held on Saturday and RJ began the Pro-Lite truck class race on the front row. RJ Anderson quickly jumped out into the lead with a couple of challenges from Brandon Arthur and Brad Deberti. Anderson was lucky to have avoided the carnage behind him taking the win in spectacular fashion leading from the green flag to the checkers. This was the first win of the season for the K&N filters equipped #37 Loanmart/South Point Pro-Lite but it wouldn’t be the last that weekend.

Jake Gagne repeated race one's class win and secured another double victory at Road America

In the Round 6 Pro-Lite main RJ Anderson jumped out into the lead in his K&N equipped #37 Loanmart/South Point truck to complete a sweep of the weekend’s Pro-Lite racing

The LOORRS round 5 Pro 2 truck class main event was scheduled to close out Anderson’s day and spirits were high following his Pro-Lite win. After the first lap of racing RJ came through in third position, but with two laps to go the #37 Pro 2 suffered an axle failure forcing RJ to pull off the track. RJ and the RJ Anderson Racing team returned to the pits to prep for Round 6.

The following day Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series round 6 got started at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park with slightly better weather conditions than the day before. In the Pro-Lite main event RJ Anderson jumped out to an early lead in his K&N filters equipped #37 Loanmart/South Point Pro-Lite truck and maintained that lead for every lap of the race to complete a sweep of the weekend’s Pro-Lite racing.

After fixing the Pro-2 truck’s axle that had broken the day before, RJ and the team felt confident they would be able to show the same speed again on Sunday. The morning of the race someone noticed a leak that turned out to be a serious engine problem and the whole team sprang into action. With RJ starting on the pole the stakes were high and the crew pushed hard, pulling off a complete engine swap in little more than two hours’ time to get RJ to the line.

On the final lap of LOORRS Pro-2 round 6 RJ was caught by a hard-charging Bryce Menzies in a drag race to the line decided by a photo finish and RJ Anderson would settle for third

Once on the track in his K&N air filters sponsored Pro-2 truck RJ did not disappoint. Almost immediately RJ jumped out front and held first place for the entire first lap ahead of Brian Deegan and Bryce Menzies. RJ held off the horde of drivers behind him until lap 9 when Brian Deegan managed to get by moving Anderson into second place. On the final lap RJ was caught by a hard-charging Bryce Menzies in a drag race to the finish line. The finish was decided by a photo finish and unfortunately RJ Anderson would have to settle for third.

The whole K&N backed team was thrilled with the weekend’s results as RJ showed he has the speed to dominate in an increasingly competitive Pro-Lite class as well as running up front in both Pro 2 races. RJ would like to thank all of the friends, family and teammates who came out to support the RJ37 team. RJ Anderson and the team would also like to express their gratitude toward gracious sponsors, such as K&N Air Filters, that make this all happen. The Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series rolls into Tooele, Utah over Father’s Day weekend June 20-21 and the RJ37 team will be there ready to back up their results.
